Where to start compiling
Accounting is mandatory for all legal entities. Consequently, the management of any company is interested in the correct conduct of financial activities. To do this, you need to attract a qualified specialist who will conduct accounting quickly, efficiently and without violations.
Usually, serious competitions are announced for such a position, and the better the location and the higher the salary, the greater the requirements for the applicant. The first step towards your dream job is filling out your accountant resume, and you need to do it right. If it contains basic errors or lacks important information, then you should not count on a meeting with the employer.
We approach the following points in detail and thoroughly.
Career objective
Be clear about the position you are applying for. This formulation will allow the employer to understand that you are ready to perform specific functions and responsibilities.
But it is not recommended to indicate several positions at once in one paper. It is better to create a separate document for each vacancy. Otherwise, the employer will get the impression that the applicant has only superficial knowledge of accounting.
Example
The organization has two vacancies open at once: a payroll specialist and a primary documentation specialist. Send two documents to the future employer for each vacancy separately. This approach will improve your chances of getting hired.
Candidate Information
This section contains personal data about the applicant for a vacant position. Here you need to provide reliable information:
- FULL NAME. and date of birth. But age, that is, the number of full years, is not necessary to indicate.
- Place of residence and place of registration.
- Marital status of the candidate.
- Contact details. This is a phone number, email address or messenger numbers.
- Information about the education received. Here you need to list all educational institutions in chronological order: indicate the faculty and graduation date.
- Please also indicate courses and advanced training, but only those that are related to the desired position. For example, you should not indicate successfully completed culinary courses in your resume for the job of chief accountant (and others).
You shouldn’t embellish your biography either. During employment, all data is checked, documents, diplomas and certificates are requested. No employer wants to start a relationship with deception.
Creating the Best Accountant Resume
A sample of a completed resume for an accountant will not, of course, replace experience and skills, but it will give you the opportunity to get an interview in order to tell about yourself.
We can say that the main and only task of a good resume for a job for an accountant is to advertise the candidate, so the applicant is simply obliged to create a template for the ideal resume.
Every responsible person should have a ready-made resume; at least, you can create a template containing all places of work, all the main skills and achievements, and for each vacancy, remove the unnecessary, leaving the current data.
The completed resume of an accountant must be:
- structured;
- brief;
- specific;
- selective.
For a beginner, it may be difficult to enter all the useful information about yourself using a minimum of characters, but after some practice it is possible. It doesn’t matter what vacancy the applicant is applying for, a resume for a chief accountant is no different from a resume, for example, a cashier accountant, only the job responsibilities are different.
Each document should be concise, with information written in an easy-to-read manner. The applicant must choose his best personal qualities and professional skills that are most suitable for the given vacancy.
You can try to imagine yourself as an employer and guess what kind of accountant he needs, with what skills, and accordingly, enter them into your accountant resume example
Dream salary
The desired salary level is the most controversial point of the document. It is important not to sell yourself short here: if a candidate agrees to work for a small salary, this most often indicates his lack of professionalism, little experience and insufficient knowledge. But it all depends on the situation.
For example, if an employee has no experience, this fully justifies the candidate’s low requirements for future earnings.
Of course, it’s also not worth indicating an unrealistically large amount when writing an accountant’s resume for a job. The employer will immediately conclude that they will not hire such a specialist and are unlikely to invite you for an interview.
Advice
Study the average salary for the desired position in a specific region, request information on the Internet. The average salary of accounting employees in St. Petersburg is 35,000–40,000 rubles. Set your desired earnings based on this information.
experience
In this section, list your previous or current jobs. Enter information for the last 5–10 years, in accordance with the entries in the work book. Of course, it is not necessary to indicate the period of work as a seamstress.
If you have no experience at all, then it is permissible to indicate the place of internship. Most Russian graduates of secondary vocational and higher educational institutions are sent to the “front line” before defending their thesis.
In addition to your company name and position, describe what duties you performed. There is no need to rewrite the entire job description; highlight only the most important points.
key skills
In this section, you should correctly describe all the skills and abilities that are directly related to work in this position. Avoid general phrases. Accounting jobs, experience and skills are determined by the area of work. Do not write: “knowledge of all taxation systems.” It’s better to list which systems you worked with. Realistically assess your own capabilities. Otherwise, the truth will come out during the interview.
Let's list the resume accountant skills that you can copy from your resume:
- Conducting cash transactions in the institution.
- Successful experience in preparing and submitting salary reports to the Social Insurance Fund, Federal Tax Service, Pension Fund and Rosstat.
- Payroll calculation based on piecework wages (500 people).
- Maintaining tax accounting of the enterprise on OSNO, USN, UTII.
- Maintaining accounting and tax records of product export operations.
- Optimizing the tax burden.
Indicate special skills - these are those knowledge and skills that are not related to accounting work, but will play into your hands when finding a job. Examples: knowledge of a foreign language, legal education or management courses (management).
You should not list all the key accountant skills in your resume - only the significant and significant aspects should be highlighted for each job. It is not a fact that the employer will read an overly long document to the end.
General recommendations for filling out an accountant's resume
Accounting has many areas and features, so generalized information about the applicant is not always enough for the employer. General recommendations are:
- Describe in detail your professional advantages - the more detailed the applicant indicates his skills and abilities in the profession, the greater his chances of successfully passing the competitive selection for the desired vacancy.
- Often, after working for a long time at one enterprise, an accountant changes his work area several times. This gives the applicant not only practical experience in various areas of accounting, but also the opportunity to list the areas of work mastered in the achievements section.
- If the applicant has experience in accounting, but has a non-core education, he can undergo additional training in accounting courses, as well as vocational training in its narrow areas, which is also indicated in the resume.
- For an employer, it is important for an applicant to be able to multitask. When writing a resume, it is better to list all areas of accounting with which you have previously worked.
additional information
It is important not only to study an example of key skills in an accountant's resume, but also to fill out the column with additional information.
Here, indicate your personal achievements, professional and work qualities. It is acceptable to attach a photo. All this information is provided at the request of the candidate.
For example, among personal achievements:
“the transition to automated accounting in the organization was successfully carried out”, “a complete adaptation of internal and external electronic document management was carried out.”
Personal qualities are those character traits that define an employee as a person. Often, general phrases are indicated in this section: perseverance, stress resistance and the ability to work in a team.
If you have recommendations from previous employers, then it is acceptable to include them in your resume. Information is indicated in two ways: as an appendix to the document, if you have a letter of recommendation, or by providing contact information for an employer who is willing to vouch for you.
Accountant resume sections
For many job seekers, the most acceptable option is to download an accountant’s resume and tailor it to suit your skills and responsibilities. So, right now you can download a sufficient number of samples from 2018, you just need to select those forms that are completed correctly so as not to transfer other people’s mistakes into your document. The completed sample must include the sections listed below.
Personal information on an accountant's resume
Name, address, contact information - all this should be present in an accountant’s resume, but recruiters also recommend indicating profiles on social networks.
You should be careful when posting links to your profiles on social networks so that HR managers do not see pages full of reposts of political news or photographs of half-naked people.
Profiles should carry a useful load and describe the owner as a professional, otherwise it is better to omit them.
Correct: ________________________________________ Dokuretov Igor Petrovich | 38 years old E-mail Tel.: XXX-XXXXXXX
Wrong:
________________________________________ Dokuretov Igor Petrovich, born in 1980 E-mail Tel.: XXX-XXXXXXX
The goal must indicate the desired position and salary level. The objective on a resume is sometimes missed, and this is wrong:
the document appears somewhat unfinished. An accountant resume objective gives recruiters an idea of how serious the candidate is and also shows that the person knows how to write an up-to-date accountant resume sample.
Work experience on resume
It is difficult for many applicants to correctly indicate work experience in a resume for an accountant, and the problem is not that people without experience, they simply do not know how to correctly format this section.
Instead of professional responsibilities, it is better to indicate achievements at work.
The point of the statement is that by using work achievements, you can list the key skills that an employer needs. Recruiters often use keyword searches when selecting resumes, and achievements in an accountant’s resume can be partially compiled from such keys.
Another opportunity to use the correct phrases - key skills
, but more about them below.
Modern HR requirements for filling out the work experience section are to list the last 3-4 positions, and each place of work should be commented on with 4-5 achievements at work. The advantage of achievements is that the employer immediately sees what benefits this candidate brought to each previous company, and it is clear that they want to attract such an employee as quickly as possible.
Right:
________________________________________ Negotiated with 300 clients per month to identify needs; Trained 15 employees to work with the new database; Made 50 online payments per day.
Wrong:
________________________________________ Negotiated with clients; Trained employees to work with the new database; Made online payments.
Education on resume
Nowadays, you can’t surprise anyone with an accounting education, so you shouldn’t talk too much about it, indicating only the minimum: university, department, specialty, but if there are additional advantages in the form of courses, trainings or publications, they must be clearly stated. How to fill out this section - almost no such questions arise, since everything is quite simple, you just need to write down the data without errors.
Accountant resume skills
Personal (key) skills are the strongest section of a resume; this is where search engines may or may not find the words and phrases that employer representatives need. Personal qualities in an accountant's resume cannot be replaced by any other section, so it is important to check and double-check everything listed in this column before submitting.
“It is useful to read the employer’s requirements for the vacancy before starting to fill out the section, and it is also useful to review everything after completing the filling.”
The point is that the skills in an accountant's resume can easily be used as the most powerful tool to create a great resume that best suits the requirements.
Each skill should be described in one or two words, demonstrating that you are proficient in this area.
Try not to confuse skills and job responsibilities (functional)
, which are indicated in the work experience section. You can read more about how to choose the right skills for your resume in our blog. If skills are described briefly, then it is better to use numbers everywhere in job responsibilities, because they, as if by default, confirm the skills being described and give an idea of how valuable this applicant is.
Right:
________________________________________ 1C: Accounting 1C: Enterprise 8 MS Office ConsultantPlus Tax reporting Tax optimization
Wrong:
________________________________________ I know 1C; I know the laws; Submitted reports to the tax authorities; Calculated salaries and sick leave; Worked with large amounts of data; Good at counting on a calculator
Professional standard
Recently, the position of an accountant has been included in the list of professions for which special standards are provided (approved by order of the Ministry of Labor of the Russian Federation dated December 22, 2014 No. 1061n). Professional standard requirements for applicants for the position of “accountant”:
- Having at least secondary vocational education or additional vocational education in special programs.
- The minimum practical experience in this position is three years.
There are no other requirements.
If you meet all the requirements and skills established by professional standards, then this should definitely be indicated in your resume.
List of achievements
The concept of an accountant’s achievements includes the results of work in past positions, which indicate:
- Success in achieving your professional goal.
- Reflection of economic attractiveness, as a result of the assistance of an accountant.
What is important here is not how many duties and functions the accountant performed, but what he achieved as a result of his activities.
EXAMPLE
“During the period of performance of duties as an accountant at Horns and Hooves LLC, 12 audits by tax authorities were successfully carried out.”
You can also boast about certificates, diplomas received for the results of your work, etc. - this can also be considered an achievement.

- Accuracy.
- Attentiveness.
- Performance.
- Analytical mind.
- Fast learner.
- Performance.
- Responsibility.
- Perseverance.
- Honesty.
Photo
A photograph is an optional detail of the resume. Typically, a photograph is recommended for placement in a resume for representatives of vacancies that involve communication with the “outside world” on behalf of the company, as well as, for example, top models.
An accountant is busy with intradepartmental work with documents, so the appearance of an applicant for this profession is not required. However, the right headshot can have a positive impact on the employer.
A neat appearance, business style in clothes and hairstyle can indicate a lot about the applicant for the position.
For the photo, you will need to choose a not very formal, but appropriate dress code for a suit, light makeup and a neat hairstyle. The photography environment must be analyzed down to the last detail. For example, the photo can be taken in a work office.
The pose in the photograph of the applicant should be free, formal, preferably with a slight smile.
