    About the laser tag club

    The goal of this project is to create the first laser tag club in Dimitrovgrad. Laser tag is a very popular and rapidly growing type of sports and entertainment services all over the world. Over the past 2 years, the popularity of laser tag has grown 7.5 times and more than 300 clubs have already been opened throughout Russia. In Ulyanovsk alone, more than 10 clubs with laser tag equipment have opened and are successfully operating. This indicates an increase in demand and the clear promise of this type of sports entertainment.

    Laser tag is a team sports and technical game using light weapons (markers) that shoot IR rays. There are many game scenarios for laser tag. The playing field is a forest or open area with natural or artificial shelters for players. The essence of the game is to defeat opposing players with safe light shots from a machine gun blaster. The actual “defeat” of the player occurs by registering the beam of the opponent’s machine gun blaster with special sensors attached to a special headband or vest.

    Advantages of a laser tag club

    1. The game does not require special physical training and is based on simple and understandable rules, so anyone who is allowed to participate in physical education for health reasons can participate in it;
    2. Games take place outdoors or indoors and are associated with active physical activity, and there is no need to separate players by weight or age categories;
    3. Unlike paintball, where after being hit by a ball, pain and even injury remain, laser tag in this regard is absolutely safe and does not cause pain from being hit by an infrared ray;
    4. Laser tag is an environmentally friendly game, after which there is no waste or paint left behind (compared to paintball);
    5. Compared to other sports, laser tag has a special appeal as a military sports adventure. Moreover, laser tag provides an opportunity for a controlled release of aggression and stress relief;
    6. Laser tag can be used as a non-traditional sport with elements of military-patriotic education and preparation for military service, instilling respect for equipment and equipment and diverting teenagers from the street;
    7. Also widely used is the ability of laser tag to unite the team during the game and identify natural leaders - many companies use it to select working groups during internal corporate tournaments.
    8. Laser tag games are a real holiday for city residents with a lot of positive emotions and unforgettable sensations.

    How much money do you need to open a laser tag club?

    Funds for the implementation of the business project are planned to be received in the form of a subsidy (grant) for starting small businesses from the budget of the city of Dimitrovgrad to open their own business in the amount of 300,000 rubles and used to purchase basic equipment (model weapons).

    It is also planned to spend our own funds in the amount of about 70,000 rubles on the purchase of ammunition and additional equipment.

    What OKVED code should I indicate when registering a laser tag club?

    The main type of activity of an entrepreneur according to OKVED is code 92.62 - Other activities in the field of sports.

    Entrepreneurial activities will be carried out on the territory of Dimitrovgrad, and beyond its borders during on-site events. Negotiations and agreements are currently underway with the owners of land plots and territories for holding regular games.

    Today it is planned to hold games at the following venues:

    1. Forest area behind Marfina Street, Dimitrovgrad;
    2. Inactive farms in the village. Upper Melekess (away games);
    3. Lamp factory in Dimitrovgrad;
    4. An unfinished building in a holiday village (tower).

    It is worth noting that bus routes run to the training grounds located in Dimitrovgrad, which makes it easier for city residents to access playgrounds. Clients who like more extreme versions of the game will be offered trips to training grounds located outside the city.

    The list of polygons provided above is not yet complete. The search for new playgrounds will take place regularly. Main selection criteria:

    1. Playground safety for the client;
    2. Interesting and suitable infrastructure;
    3. Location (Distance from the city).

    A personal vehicle will be used to deliver equipment to the playgrounds.

    Selecting a location

    There are three types of playgrounds for playing laser tag:

    1. in a closed room (with a labyrinth and additional structures, appropriate surroundings);
    2. on open land plots (forest, field) without extensions and structures;
    3. on prepared sites (rent with special extensions, shelters).

    Forest areas are a free platform, you just need to regulate the actions with the local administration. The most expensive option is to equip the premises, although there are exceptions here - you can rent an abandoned building (the main thing is that it is not in disrepair) and add to it.

    Experienced entrepreneurs recommend renting a plot of land to build a business and equipping it with everything necessary - fencing, places for shelter, towers for shooters, firing points.

    Recruitment

    To carry out the activities of the club, three people will be involved - the individual entrepreneur himself and three hired employees.

    Indicators of social and economic results of the project: 1. Registration of a new individual entrepreneur in the territory of Dimitrovgrad; 2. Development of sports entertainment infrastructure in Dimitrovgrad; 3. Creation of new jobs; 4. Receipt of tax payments into the budget system of the Russian Federation within 3 years of more than 300,000 (Three hundred thousand) rubles; 5. Assistance in organizing leisure time for young people and promoting a healthy lifestyle of the population; 6. Reducing the number of unemployed in the Ulyanovsk region.

    Description of products and services

    {banner_text622x90} Laser tag is a team game that is fun to play in groups of 8 or more people. At the initial stage of the project, the club will be able to simultaneously accommodate up to 16 people, which corresponds to 16 game sets. Game kits (equipment) are shooting and hitting simulators. Used in organizing sporting events, tactical training, corporate and entertainment events.

    Shooting is carried out in the infrared range. The defeat is detected by light and vibration alarms on the headband, as well as an audible warning from the gun. Main characteristics of laser tag equipment:

    • The firing range reaches 350m, and in sniper modifications up to 600m;
    • Battery life from 4-10 hours, in some models up to 48 hours;
    • The weight and dimensions of different equipment models, as a rule, correspond to real weapon prototypes.

    At the beginning of the game, each player is provided with: 1. Weapons and a headband with damage sensors. Models can be very different - AK-74, MP-661, SVD-P, etc.

    2. Camouflage. Each team has its own distinctive color.

    Game scenarios:

    1. Capture a control point (flag).

    Without exaggeration, this game can be called the most common among laser tag games. This is due, first of all, to the fact that “capture the flag” can be played in the field, in the forest, in a city park, and indoors. The game begins with the players dividing into two or three teams and occupying appropriate positions on the game territory. A control point (flag) is located in a neutral place. The point of the game is to capture the flag (light your team's color at the control point) and hold it for 10 minutes.

    This game has various variations. The game scenario can be limited by the number of cartridges, lives, and time. The choice of base area can be carried out by teams autonomously, so that they will not know the specific location of both bases. The game may have several military leaders with an increased number of lives, as well as the ability to restore life at their base.

    2. Wall to wall.

    A simple, but no less interesting, game is “wall to wall”. In it, participants are divided into two teams and enter into battle. The winning team is considered to be the one in which at least one fighter remains, and the game is considered over, respectively, when all the players of one of the teams are killed. The scenario allows for a variety of composition variations when players on a smaller team have more lives or when a “killed” player “comes to life” on the side of the other team. It is also possible to enable the “non-stop” rule, when a killed fighter is carried by his team’s players to the base and revived, restoring his life.

    3. Everyone is against everyone.

    Players disperse throughout the territory (battlefield), occupying the most successful positions, and enter into a tactical battle in which everyone plays for themselves. The goal of the game is to destroy as many opponents as possible and stay alive. Time and number of cartridges may be limited. And there are many other scenarios that depend on the imagination of the club organizers.

    At the stage of ordering the game, the client will be asked to choose a place (playing area) for the laser battle. After agreeing on the playing area and the time of the fight, the price will be negotiated.

    Marketing and advertising

    To attract the maximum number of customers from the very moment the club opens, it is necessary to think through an active advertising campaign, which will include:

    • printing business cards;
    • distribution of flyers and leaflets;
    • creation and promotion of your own website;
    • maintaining pages on social networks;
    • advertising in local media;
    • production of outdoor advertising - street banners, banners, etc.

    The monthly advertising campaign consists of an active presence on social networks, organizing contextual advertising, submitting advertisements to local media, and posting mini-banners in transport.

    Since establishments of this type are mainly located outside the city limits and it is impossible to attract an audience “just passing by”, investment in advertising is mandatory, and the campaign must be built competently, especially in the initial period.

    In the future, club owners should definitely hold promotions and offer bonus and discount programs:

    • introduce a progressive system of discounts for regular players;
    • hold competitions and other events on social media pages;
    • offer a 10% discount to the birthday boy and all his guests;
    • send commercial proposals to local firms to attract corporate clients.

    Cost of club services

    The planned cost of services and the laser tag club discount system are presented in table No. 3.

    Table No. 3. Cost of laser tag club services

    Game timePrice for 1 person, rub.
    1 hour250
    2 hours400
    3 hours500
    Each subsequent hour +100 rubles

    It is worth noting that the price of the game is relatively low compared to other types of entertainment. For the same price, you can, for example, go to the movies or rent a bike. Therefore, many residents of Dimitrovgrad will be able to use the club’s services.

    Marketing plan

    Since our club will be the first in Dimitrovgrad, only organizations with a similar type of service, for example paintball clubs, can compete. However, due to the novelty and many advantages of laser tag over other types of similar entertainment, it is planned to attract a large number of customers.

    This is a new type of outdoor activity that is aimed at a huge audience. Therefore, consumers of the club’s services will be people of different age groups.

    Statistics by age groups of laser tag clubs:

    As we see, in fact, the entire working population and children play laser tag, which is why this game is so popular and interesting.

    The main directions of the club’s work:

    • Work with corporate clients (large companies, security organizations, educational institutions);
    • Work with regular clients (athletes, club members);
    • Conducting competitions and promotional games at festive events;
    • Carrying out games for personal recreation, anniversaries and birthdays.

    The goals and objectives of the laser tag club are:

    • Creation of a new niche in the existing segment of the entertainment market in the city of Dimitrovgrad;
    • Return of subsidies (grant) in the form of tax payments to the budget of the city of Dimitrovgrad for 3 years.
    • Receiving income on invested funds of at least 250% per year;

    The goal of marketing is to create conditions for the club to operate under which it can successfully fulfill its objectives, taking into account the current parameters of the entertainment market:

    1. Consumers of services - the population of the city who have an income of over 8,500 rubles per month;
    2. The club's market opportunities are assessed by the capabilities of the laser tag club's material and technical base, i.e. the maximum number of clients that the club can accept over a certain period of time, in terms of price-quality ratio, i.e. competitors' prices for similar types of services and their substitutes are taken into account, as well as the created information field and the image of the laser tag club. When creating the image of a prestigious organization, it is necessary to maintain prices at a relatively high level, but for existing services the price should not be higher than that of competitors, and at the same time, the laser tag club’s pricing policy should be based on the principle of high price - high quality, and to maximize the use of opportunities laser tag club to consider the possibility of introducing discounts on the purchase of games for regular (corporate) clients, preferential time, volume discounts and club cards;
    3. Carrying out special promotional events (competitions) aimed at promoting laser tag in the entertainment services market and popularizing it as a sport among the general population, while it is necessary to constantly maintain the image of a prestigious (fashionable), but at the same time accessible sport and entertainment for city residents.

    Plan of additional sports and entertainment events for 2013: 1. Laser tag tournament for Santa Claus prizes - January; 2. Open laser tag championship “Sweet Couple” dedicated to St. Valentine’s Day. Valentina - February; 3. Youth laser tag tournament “Young Defender of the Fatherland” - February 4. Amateur laser tag tournaments “March 8” and “MASLENITSA” - March; 5. Open team championship in Dimitrovgrad – March-April; 6. Open April Fool’s tournament “Just for fun” - April; 7. The power and volume of effects and shots are regulated separately through the configurator, and you can also record your sounds into the equipment. Each player will be able to customize the equipment to suit their requirements.

    4. We are the first to integrate recoil simulation technology. Powerful vibration motors are installed in the weapon bodies, which create a feeling of recoil and add additional emotions to the game. Our recoil technology can be configured both in battery saving mode - Feedback, and in constant operation mode, simulating recoil when shooting. And all this - without additional batteries and a significant increase in cost. Thanks to LASERWAR, vibration motor recoil technology has become a standard in laser tag for many years to come.

    5. The use of an OLED display in a weapon is a new word in the quality of displaying game information. The brightness of OLED technology allows you to read information even in bright daylight; the display operates stably from -40C to +60C. reliability is many times higher than that of cheap LCD displays, which has been tested by time of operation.

    6. Since 2013, I have completely abandoned the use of external units. All electronics and batteries are mounted inside the case. Thanks to this, the weapon looks authentic, and the player's mobility increases significantly. Full internal integration of electronics into the layout body, an authentic appearance is achieved through the skill of the installers and high-quality components (wires, buttons, speakers, microswitches, etc.)

    7. The wireless multi-zone SMART RGB headband is based on the most secure Bluetooth wireless technology. Low transmission output power is a guarantee of safety for human health. The defeat sensors located on the headband have a signal reception range of 360 degrees horizontally and 180 degrees vertically, which absolutely eliminates “dead zones”. 4 vibration motors are integrated into the headband, each of which works independently of the others, indicating the direction from which the player is hit, sound and the ability to glow in different colors depending on team membership. The sensor housings are made of polycarbonate - they simply cannot be broken during game use. The new type of hygienic cuff is very convenient to use and easy to wash. Choice of colors and camouflage of various units of the world.

    8. In addition to headbands, we produce three different types of vests. Unloading sensor systems, classic vests and belt-shoulder systems. Up to eight damage sensors are installed on them. The vests have a high-quality cut, a lot of different camouflage colors, and the wiring is integrated inside the lining using special technology. This type of sensor integration is finding more and more fans among laser tag professionals.

    9. The ability to use two types of weapons at the same time with a headband or vest gives the player additional freedom during the game. There is no long synchronization, we just turn on the weapon and the headband, the entire process of establishing communication takes a few seconds. And you can already play. Our equipment is subject to the Plug and Play principle. You don’t need to spend a lot of time with a laptop to register the ID or kit number to synchronize the headband and weapon, and you don’t need to make sure that the weapon and the headband are kept together during transportation. Bandages are universal - if a player wants to change weapons during the game, please change them. The headband will establish a connection with the new weapon automatically, 10 seconds after the power is activated.

    13. The unique certified optical systems of the “Prism” series are made of polymer material, which is stronger and more resistant to stress than aluminum and some types of metal. The bright, rich black color will not flake off like paint or any other coating on metal. The proprietary knurling of the optical system and the adjusted dimensions, copying the appearance of the mufflers, will not leave fans of the real MILSIMA indifferent. Unique technology of illuminating the shot with an orange cross. The illumination power of the shot is 4 times brighter than anyone else's. The orange flame from the backlight creates a Wow effect when shooting. In the new generation of optics we use coated lenses. Only we conduct annual tests of range and accuracy, showing real, not imaginary results. The design features of the optical system make it possible to achieve a maximum firing range of up to 600 meters. Our products use eye-safe IR diodes.

    Production plan

    After the acquisition of equipment and arrangement of playgrounds, it is planned to create three jobs. The salaries of employees at the initial stage of project development will be relatively low (Table No. 4). As the club develops, wages will increase.

    How much can you earn by opening a laser tag club?

    We will assume that the majority of games will take place on weekends (Saturday and Sunday). The approximate flow of clients is 20 people per day or 2 teams of 10 people each. This is a small number, as some clubs in large cities hold games for 200 people a day. We will count at the minimum, since our city is small.

    Next, let's determine the game time. On average, one team (team) of 10 people takes the game for 3 hours. It turns out that the club will work for 6 hours a day (2 teams of 10 people each).

    There will be an average of 12 game days per month. This is 8 weekends and holidays, plus a few games on weekdays and minus rainy and stormy days. Total per month the club will operate: 12 days. * 6 hours = 72 hours

    Revenue per month: 72h. * 10 people * 200 rub. = 144,000 rub.

    Since the game takes place outdoors, it is characterized by seasonality. Seasonality can be conditionally divided into 2 periods: spring-summer period (April-September) and autumn-winter period (October-March). Based on the experience of other clubs, revenue in the autumn-winter period drops by 2.5 times. That is, in our club during this period the monthly revenue will be at the level of 144,000 rubles. / 2.5 = 57,600 rubles.

    In this case, the average monthly revenue for 12 months will be: (144,000 * 6 months) + (57,600 * 6 months) / 12) = 100,800 rubles.

    This is actually a minimum calculation, since similar clubs play many more games per month. Ultimately, everything depends on the work of the club organizers.

    Let's present the general economic indicators of the club's work in table No. 6.

    As can be seen from table No. 6, in the autumn-winter period the club’s profitability of sales will be only 11%, that is, the club is operating at a slight plus. But you shouldn’t stop working in the winter, as this damages the club’s image and loses regular customers. Then, in the spring-summer period, the club’s work gains momentum, the number of orders and revenue grows. The club's sales profitability during this period is at a very high level - 177%. Thus, for the year the average monthly return on sales of the club is 94%, which is a very good indicator.

    The average monthly profit will be 48,926 rubles. In general, a laser tag club will earn about 600,000 rubles in one calendar year. Part of these funds will be used to develop the club, hire new employees and increase the wage fund.

    Brothers in Arms: How to Make Money on Laser Tag Equipment

    Twin brothers Sergei and Alexey Tereshchenkov did not plan to connect their lives with the entertainment industry. Both received an IT degree at the university and began their careers as IT specialists. But one day Alexey saw a game of laser tag - and something clicked inside. He persuaded Sergei to play - and these 15 minutes changed their lives forever. Today, the 34-year-old Tereshchenkov brothers run a family company that produces laser tag equipment and supplies it to dozens of countries around the world. Sergey and Alexey Tereshchenkov told the Biz360.ru portal about how to playfully make money on the “war game”.

    Dossier

    Sergey and Alexey Tereshchenkov

    , entrepreneurs from Smolensk, founders
    of a brand that produces equipment for playing laser tag.
    The twin brothers are 34 years old, both graduated from the Smolensk branch of the Moscow State University of Service with a degree in electronic security systems service. In 2008, we started renting laser tag equipment for military tactical games, and already in 2009 we released our first own equipment. The company's annual revenue is about 100 million rubles, more than 75% of its products are supplied abroad. Dad gave the family a computer

    Probably, in childhood, all the boys played “war”. Alexey and Sergey are no exception. They made their own weapons. “My grandmother had a bunch of boards in her garden, and we once made machine guns out of them that were taller than us; we could barely lift them. We ran around the garden with these super-mega-blasters, shooting all day long,” recalls Sergei.

    My childhood was in the nineties. Even at the largest enterprise in the region, where the twins’ parents Elena Aleksandrovna and Igor Viktorovich worked, salaries were low. But one day the Tereshchenkovs inherited an inheritance. Not gigantic, but it forced parents to make a choice.

    “Did my father choose – to buy a car or a computer? And he bought a computer, the first Pentium. It was a luxury in 1998, View Sonic's first color monitor. We installed a lot of games, and because of this, the Windows operating system constantly crashed, we had to reinstall all the programs - secretly, while dad was on a business trip. This is how we learned the basics of computer science,” says Alexey. Now the brothers understand that this computer determined their life and love for technology.

    After school, they studied to be programmers - first in college, then at university. Sergey worked as a network and database administrator at the Federal Statistics Service, Alexey worked as a teacher of database programming at the College of Economics, Statistics and Law, as well as a system administrator at Smolensk.

    Sergei participated in the work of the Smolensk branch of the Nashi movement and in 2005 was supposed to go to Seliger. But he got sick, and Alexey went. It was on Seliger that he saw a game of laser tag. “There was no way that I would see this as a commercial project from the first second. I just liked the game - people were running and shooting. I've never seen anything like it before. They didn't even let me play, there was no way to understand how it works. I actually saw the game for five to ten minutes. But after that, I got on the Internet and started reading what it all was,” says Alexey.

    • Laser tag
      is
      laser paintball: players “shoot” at each other from electronic blasters with a “laser” beam. Special sensors on the equipment allow you to understand who is “killed” and who is “wounded”.

    When he returned, Alexey told his brother about laser tag. Sergei reacted coolly to the story. “At that time I was installing satellite dishes on roofs and repairing computers. It seemed to me that this was the prospect of the coming years. Therefore, I didn’t understand Alexei’s enthusiasm. But I remembered his emotions when he told me about the idea,” says Sergei. Once Sergei needed to go to Moscow on business, and Alexey asked him to look into the laser tag club.

    “I took the metro to the city center to the shopping center - there was the first indoor laser tag in Moscow, Qzar. I paid for fifteen minutes of play - I didn’t have much more. These fifteen minutes changed my life forever! I returned from Moscow a different person - and with triple emotions I told Alexey about this laser tag game! And he told me: “I told you so, you fool, I told you so!” - recalls Sergei.

    Where can I get a million?

    There are two types of laser tag: indoor (indoor) and outdoor (on-site). The first one is more expensive, since in order to make the game more interesting, a labyrinth is built and various equipment is installed. Sergey drew up a business project for an indoor laser tag and went to the competition of the Youth School of Entrepreneurship. His plan was the most elaborate and required a million rubles in launch costs. But the judges gave preference to the mini-printing house, and after the competition they explained: “Sergey, first learn to manage 100 thousand rubles, and only then ask for a million, otherwise you won’t be able to handle it.”

    The brothers redesigned the business plan for outdoor laser tag - now the launch required 150-200 thousand rubles. For the brothers, this was a significant amount, and they had no idea where they would get it. Through the Internet we found a Ukrainian company that produced electronics for laser tag rifles. The filling for one gun cost 500 euros. The brothers decided to buy electronics for two guns. They earned a thousand euros in all ways, including unloading trucks with watermelons. We saved up the required amount and bought electronics. Shotgun cases were ordered from .

    And now the moment of assembly has come. Then it turned out that I had to solder and needed a special tool. But the brothers didn’t know how to solder! The first two kits took two weeks to assemble. “There was so much new in this for us - assembly, soldering of microcircuits... There was no one to teach. Read online forums. We sat together and soldered at night. Now I don’t really understand how everything turned out for us. It helped that I was used to finishing everything to the end,” says Sergei.

    By the May holidays of 2008, they had two working rifles with armbands. “All May, my friends and I played laser tag. Everyone loved it. We realized that we were moving in the right direction and we needed to open a club,” says Alexey.

    Just at that time, a company producing laser tag equipment appeared in Veliky Novgorod. Ten finished rifles required 150 thousand rubles. The brothers had 30 thousand rubles, earned from repairing computers and installing satellite dishes. Another 120 thousand were required. The brothers no longer counted on competitions and investors. Credit? But the brothers’ official salaries were such that the bank would not have given them 120 thousand. There was only one thing left to do - ask your parents.

    “We have never asked our parents for money in our lives. Neither for pies, nor for entertainment - they understood that their salaries were small,” says Sergei. But there was nowhere to go - and the brothers asked their parents to take out a loan. My father flared up at first - “What kind of laser tag?!” - but in the morning the parents decided that they would help their sons start a business. We took out a loan for 130 thousand rubles at 25%, agreed on a meeting with the manufacturer and went to Moscow. The deal took place right on the platform of the Belorussky railway station - 150 thousand rubles were exchanged for 10 laser tag guns, everything was done unnoticed by others.

    “You can say as much as you want that you are cool, but our parents helped us at the beginning of our journey. Maybe we would have taken out a loan ourselves, but later, two years later. But business is such a thing that you need to open as quickly as possible. An idea can disappear in a month. Before us, a manufacturer opened in Veliky Novgorod. And in parallel with us, it was gaining momentum in Saratov. If we opened in two years, they would have grown and divided the market during this time. And we would hardly have developed to the current level,” say the Tereshchenkov brothers.

    New Horizons

    With their twelve guns, the brothers opened a laser tag club in Smolensk in July 2008. The first idea was to make money by renting equipment, not by manufacturing. We bought a domain, created a website, painted advertisements on the asphalt, called friends. Everything was very intuitive, but the marketing machine started moving.

    The financial results were encouraging: within a year the brothers repaid the same loan taken by their parents. In addition, the profit made it possible to buy ten more guns. At the same time, the guys still worked at their official jobs and studied at the university, but they practiced laser tag on weekends. And in the evenings we had to repair the equipment.

    “Laser tag equipment in those days was very primitive. A month of use and it broke. Buying new boards is very expensive. I had to climb inside the guns. There we discovered a whole world of new electronics. We delved into electronic components and programming. And when we figured it out, we realized that it’s not the gods who burn the pots. This is now laser tag - quite complex electronic circuits, software, a set of interconnected innovations - optics, electronics. And then it was just a small board that could be developed by an ordinary engineer, or even just a person interested in electronics. And we thought – why not do it ourselves?” recalls Sergei.

    At the university, Sergei had to choose a topic for his graduation project. He decided not to go far and chose “Equipment for the military-tactical game “Laser Tag”. I delved deeper into the topic and started reading foreign forums about how to make optics and electronics. Then this made it possible to avoid reinventing bicycles.

    The first step towards your own production is the development of a printed circuit board. The order for production was given to: the first batch was screwed up there, but it worked the second time. Chips and transistors were ordered from Europe.

    From time to time, people wishing to buy equipment contacted the Laserwar.ru website. For the time being, the Tereshchenkovs sent them to Veliky Novgorod. But one day they decided to fulfill the order themselves. It was a client from Ulan-Ude. This is how the first laser tag club appeared in Buryatia, operating on the equipment of the Tereshchenkov brothers.

    But at the very first order, they realized that they had to be good at counting money. Uncalculated profitability led to a minus of sixty thousand rubles. The second order is minus twenty thousand. Only on the third one there was at least a small plus - ten thousand. But, in the end, they established the process, and then received an average of thirty thousand rubles from each order.

    We worked in our parents' apartment - after work, from late evening until late at night. But only the electronic part of laser tag equipment is assembled using a soldering iron. The rest is done with the help of a hammer and even some mother. “The walls in the house are thick, we hoped for them, but it turned out to be in vain. Then, years later, when we came to visit our parents, the neighbors - one, two, three - said: “And we remember how you knocked on the second floor at night.” They heard but tolerated us. But they didn’t complain anywhere. Thanks to them." - says Sergei.

    Breakthrough breakthroughs

    In 2009, Sergei decided to bring the sound of electronic weapons closer to the real thing. The fact is that the first generations of laser tag guns and machine guns made completely puppet sounds - something like pew-pew. But I wanted something loud - tra-ta-ta-ta!

    “I made a second-generation circuit, laid out a new printed circuit board, programmed the code, laser tag electronics acquired digital sound - not pew-pew, but the sound of a shot. I ordered printed circuit boards in Zelenograd, they arrived, I assembled them and they worked! It was fantastic for me, a breakthrough of breakthroughs. There was only one company in the world that did this. And for Russia it was know-how. I was the first to get clear sound."

    I also wrote down the phrases “I’m wounded”, “I’m killed...”, I wrote it down myself - screaming, hissing, burbling - as if it were a voice from a walkie-talkie. Mixed sounds in the sound editor Cool Edit Pro. My voice sounds in about five thousand old generation guns. It was only later that we began to hire professional sound engineers. But even now you still have to mix some sounds yourself,” says Sergei.

    The brothers realized that they were now ahead of customer expectations. After that, just move forward. The large order received just at that moment – worth 200 thousand rubles – also encouraged me. And they made two fundamental decisions: they quit their official jobs and rented an office. This was the point of bifurcation - the moment after which life will no longer be the same.

    “Our office looked like an anthill”

    The first office - a former hairdressing salon on the ground floor - was rented for 14 thousand rubles. Here began the life of, as the brothers say, a real startup. “In the beginning there were two of us. Then four, five, and then in a one-room apartment - twelve people! The office resembled an anthill. They sat on their heads. We soldered, celebrated birthdays, hung out with friends - it was a unique atmosphere.”

    The company was growing 300 percent a year. In 2012, we moved to a large office with an area of about 500 square meters. “Not everyone wanted to move - people liked our small apartment comfort. But now you probably won’t find a better office in Smolensk. Work is a second home. Or even the first one? In general, when they did the renovations, they bought the tiles at a higher price than at my house. I see new technology and I bring everything to work. And I treat the guys as those with whom I will go on reconnaissance,” says Sergei.

    As the team grew, so did the scale of the tasks. By and large, the manufacturer of laser tag weapons has two of them. But - what! First: make high-quality electronic “filling”. Second: make a high-quality – durable, attractive – body. “You can be a genius in electronics, but until you have made a high-quality beautiful case, you will not sell your product to a mass client. I have always believed that it is the design of the device that attracts attention. And then everything else. And the cost price – it needs to be reduced, and if you buy cases, it’s very expensive,” says Sergei.

    “To make your own body, you need incredible competencies. I understood that the development of a 3D model, a mold, and a foundry were required, but I did not understand with whom to collaborate or what to do. In such a case, I would advise young entrepreneurs to go to an exhibition of the industry segment that interests them. You can make useful contacts there. I went to the exhibition, looked at who makes the molds, how it’s done, and how much it costs. It turned out that it costs a lot of money.

    I started looking for freelance 3D designers. The first experience was unsuccessful. I developed a rifle, paid a man 60 thousand rubles, and he quit his job halfway through. He said that he was going on vacation, but in reality he simply could not do it, it turned out to be too difficult for him. I was upset, depressed. But I started looking for other people and found a designer who knew what injection molding slopes were, what mold production was...

    Then, one truly wonderful day, investors came to us and suggested: let’s create buildings together and sell them. We accepted this offer. Our Eraser, Destroyer and other slot machines were born from this collaboration. They were often criticized by their competitors, but at that time they were the best. Now we ourselves have acquired the necessary competencies and develop cases from start to finish: modeling, molding, casting. We do everything in Smolensk. This is a huge job,” says Sergei Tereshchenkov.

    Business with brother: “One day we freaked out”

    There is a belief in the entrepreneurial sphere that doing business with friends will not lead to anything good. And even more so with relatives. But the Tereshchenkov brothers have been working together from the very beginning.

    “When we moved to a large office in 2012, my brother and I sat in the same office. And one fine day we freaked out. I couldn't listen to what he said, and he couldn't listen to me. I didn’t like everything: the way he talked to the client, the way he conducted sales. Alexey operates more with emotions, I - with technical terms, everyone believed that his method was correct. That’s when we realized that we needed to share responsibilities and sit down. It was a million dollar decision.

    Before that, we were both involved in sales, technical support, and technology. And then they split up. Now we even work on different floors, seeing each other at work at most once a day. He deals mainly with commercial clients, sales, website development, and I deal with equipment and technology - invention, what interests me. I am most interested in product management—product development. When you see the final product, it’s comparable to the launch of a new rocket, emotions go through the roof,” says Sergei.

    Now Sergey is the general director, Alexey is the commercial director. In fact, the division of responsibilities began much earlier. “Initially, in 2009, when there was no company yet, I was involved in mechanical work, turning, cutting, and Sergey was more involved in electronics: programming, writing code, soldering electronic components and microcircuits. But someone had to handle the finances. And I started keeping records - income, expenses, money flow,” says Alexey.

    The brothers say that they are like a good and an evil policeman. “I’m kind by nature, I always allow the guys everything,” says Sergei. - And my brother, on the contrary, is a “strict” policeman. I couldn't run a business without him. Alexey can count. That's why he's a commercial director. To be honest, I’m begging Alexey for money to develop the company. He is very strict even on my demands - in purchasing machines, coordinating the hiring of new people. In terms of spending and control, he is an economic monster. He knows what resources we have and puts it aside for a rainy day. Understands that there are profitable projects and unprofitable ones. If it weren’t for Alexey, it’s hard to say what would have happened to the company’s finances.”

    War is not a toy

    One day, the company of the Tereshchenkov brothers found themselves embroiled in a non-toy competition war. In general, the Tereshchenkovs have a progressive attitude towards competitors - they believe that without competition there is no movement forward. But the Saratov team looked at competition quite stereotypically.

    Polygon64 has applied for a patent for the LASERWAR trademark. Just imagine! We had to prove to the Patent Disputes Commission for a year that they filed the application before us for the purpose of unfair competition, and we defended it. They hacked our website, took out logins and passwords, went to corporate email and downloaded our commercial correspondence. We have evidence, we found a person by IP address and social networks who was responsible for hacking the mail. An application was filed and a case was opened.

    They created fake accounts and began to attack us: the products are bad, the production is garage-made. We ridiculed on the forums the fact that we used Petri dishes as housings for the sensors. Okay, we developed our own mold and stopped using Petri dishes. They responded to their criticism with action. It made us stronger. And richer. Because having your own mold means lower costs and a competitive advantage.

    They wrote that some of our samples had an inconvenient trigger system. Well, really uncomfortable. We made a new trigger system. And now she is such that no one has ever had or will have a better life. As a result, we became stronger, and the Saratov company practically stopped working in our segment, unable to withstand the competition on price/quality,” says Sergey Tereshchenkov.

    Tame the Predator

    In 2012, the Kalashnikov concern introduced a new AK-12 assault rifle. Sergei saw him on the news. “I wanted to create a machine gun of the 21st century. And when I saw the AK-12, it clicked in my head - this is our future laser tag machine! – says Sergei. “The AK-12 had not yet been adopted for service, and I understood that our products would be relevant for at least five to ten years.” At that time, the company already had experience in creating its own cases - for Destroyer and Eraser assault rifles. However, a new project means new tasks.

    “I call the Predator mine through and through,” says Sergei. - Nobody helped me here. I contacted the designer of the AK-12. And then - a year and a half, more than 600 letters. Design, visualization, printing, and again in a circle. Yes, we are based on the AK-12 from the Kalashnikov concern. But you can’t copy, because you have an optical system that has its own dimensions, batteries, electronic boards, speakers, and you need to squeeze it all into a body that should be as similar as possible to the AK-12, since this is important for marketing.

    Printing prototypes in Moscow on 3D printers was expensive, but we couldn’t afford the machine at that time (by the way, we are now planning to buy a fourth industrial printer; we don’t have time to print prototypes). After creating the 3D model, we began to look for a mold manufacturer. It turned out that in Russia only a few defense enterprises could make such a complex product, and their prices were appropriate.

    We found a contractor in Turkey. And now, 9 months later, the premiere of “Predator” was scheduled for May 1, 2014 - we decided to show it at international laser tag maneuvers in Alabino, where 512 people simultaneously played a military-tactical game according to our scenario and on our equipment.

    And a day before that, I was still in Istanbul, where a mold was made for us. One half cost 17 thousand dollars, and the total price of the product was more than 35 thousand dollars. But this is a million-dollar mold, of very high quality. With the first castings, I flew to Moscow, rushed to Smolensk, at night we assembled cases and electronics, in the morning I went to Alabino, and at seven in the evening we presented “Predator”!

    Everyone just gasped. It was a blast for the entire laser tag community. No one has seen such buildings. We placed a vibration motor in the handle, and when shooting the player felt the recoil, the optics were built inside the body, and the trigger system and reloading became simple and convenient. Our Predator was ahead of its time and is still the most authentic laser tag layout."

    The creation of “Predator” cost 10 million rubles. Its sales began in the fall of 2014, and in two years it brought in 30 million rubles.

    Crisis: shot in the back

    However, 2014 is not only the joy of creating the Predator, but also the collapse of the ruble. The dollar doubled. “We were sent an invoice for components for 300 thousand rubles. And the next day another invoice appeared for the same products - already for 600 thousand. Another invoice for 800 thousand, and the next day for the same batch they sent us an invoice for 1.4 million. That’s when I almost shed tears. Because losing that kind of money just for nothing is a shame. And we could have paid these bills earlier! But who knew? – Alexey recalls.

    The company found itself between two fires: production prices increased and sales decreased. “Sales are down almost 30 percent. In January and February 2020, the company generated losses of two million rubles. Another six months and we would have closed,” says Sergei.

    “How did we survive that crisis? I myself went to China to buy microchips. We found component manufacturers directly and minimized purchases from resellers in Russia. All these measures allowed us to reduce the increase in cost from 200 percent to 40-50 percent,” says Alexey. In addition, it was decided that the stock of components in the warehouse should not exceed three months. Afterwards, three out of four cars were switched to gas, which resulted in savings of 60 thousand rubles per year. As a result of cost optimization, the company returned to profit in the spring.

    The main thing that the crisis motivated the Tereshchenkov brothers to do was to enter the world laser tag market. We bought the domain for 4 thousand dollars. We started creating a dealer network - now the company's products are represented in 76 countries: India, Japan, China, South Korea, New Zealand, Thailand, Iran, USA, Chile, Peru, Kazakhstan, almost all European countries, etc. Three quarters of the production is exported.

    At the same time, you need to understand: in business, new horizons mean new problems. “We have a high-risk product, some countries prohibit or greatly restrict our access. Germany is the most angry. Their requirements are such that you need, I think, to give up five years of your life to get all the paperwork done correctly for a specific batch of a specific product. And recently we sent a cargo to Belize, and it reached America, visited three or four countries there, and returned to Russia. This is how you lose 200 thousand for nothing. So we have a lot of experience in export operations. But we got it at great cost,” says Alexey.

    War is a toy, business is real

    The Laserwar brand today includes 135 types of equipment: from laser tag weapons to various devices for the game. The equipment of the Smolensk company is used by more than two and a half thousand laser tag clubs in Russia and around the world. The company's revenue in 2020 amounted to just over 100 million rubles. Production is located in Smolensk. The company employs about 70 people.

    In 2020, the company began producing equipment for indoor laser tag. This is a game in a dark labyrinth - with its own technology and its own electronic features. The project of the Tereshchenkov brothers is called “Cybertag”, for which they patented the Cybertag trademark. This is exactly the analogue of the Q-Zar arena equipment - what Sergey played for the first time in his life in Moscow.

    “This equipment is much more complex than outside equipment; fundamental knowledge and experience are required in the development and production of this product. And now our company competes with American and European manufacturers with a 25-30 year history. And I must admit, they feel it and lower prices. Their bosses come to our stand at international exhibitions, look at our products, and, what is very valuable to us, praise us. They don’t look for flaws, but sincerely praise them for quality and design,” says Sergei.

    Another relatively new project is a laser tag shooting range. “The shooting range is close to us, we have a lot of laser tag pistols, we also have machine guns, which means we only need to invent a smart target. Once - done. Accordingly, we occupied a new niche in the market, and turnover increased. This is the strategy we are currently pursuing. The plans are to develop laser biathlon. We also expect to soon occupy the niche of shooting simulators,” says Sergey.

    The company is moving towards production automation. Robots for soldering SMD components are built into the technical process, and special automated stands have been assembled for testing.

    What's next

    In 2020, a three-year development plan for the laser tag club was adopted, the same one with which the business history of the Tereshchenkov brothers began in 2008. Having switched to production, the brothers did not engage in the club - they gave it to friends on a 50/50 basis, the club lived, gave money, but did not grow. Now the brothers decided to start developing it. Land purchased. The plans include the creation of the first military-tactical center in Smolensk: with a museum of the Great Patriotic War, a youth leisure center, a center for the development of creativity, and an obstacle course for passing the GTO.

    The company is also moving into the development of gaming weapons. “Our know-how is the Parallax optical system, we invented it for two years, we receive a patent for it and now the whole world will repeat it after us. This year we will release the AK-15 - a new extended model with Parallax optics. The AK-15 will be very similar to a military weapon, the authenticity will simply go off scale,” Sergei Tereshchenkov is sure.

    And the most ambitious project of this year is the construction of a design office for the production of laser tag equipment. “This will be our most technologically advanced facility. We will be very happy if we start this year. But this is a difficult project, both financially and technologically.

    We are the world number 1 in outdoor laser tag. But in terms of the arena, we have room to improve. Our neighbors in this sector, LaserForceTag.com and Lasertag.com, have been on the market for 25-30 years. But we are already in the top 5 in indoor laser tag and I think that in two years we will take first place,” says Alexey Tereshchenkov.

    Calendar plan

    To implement this project and start carrying out profitable activities, it is necessary to perform the following actions:
    1. Purchase of laser tag equipment;
    2. Preparation of training grounds for games;
    3. Testing ranges and setting up equipment;
    4. Hiring instructors and their short-term training;
    5. Beginning of work.

    According to preliminary calculations, preparations for the start of the club’s work will last a little more than three weeks. The first day of October is taken as the approximate date of receipt of the subsidy by the entrepreneur (Table No. 7).

    It is expected that the club will be at full speed, that is, with regular orders, in the spring of 2013. During the winter months of operation, the club will be promoted as much as possible and known to many residents of the city.

    Purchase of equipment and organizational issues

    To play the game you will need to buy equipment. It can be purchased either new or used. If the business fails, you can sell the uniforms. So, what will you need to buy:

    1. Laptop – choose a powerful model with a good battery that lasts for several hours if you plan to play outdoors. This is where you will install the software.
    2. Equipment deactivator - necessary for the game to be terminated at the end of the paid time.
    3. Weapon models are the most expensive part; you need to choose high-quality equipment that will not fail at the most inopportune moment. Considering that one team of 10 participants will need 11 barrels, you need to buy 2 of these sets. Immediately with them will be sold headbands for players that detect hits, the most modern of which work wirelessly.

    The best choice is Russian manufacturers of laser tag equipment; of course, you can also use Chinese analogues, but the quality of such equipment may not be the most worthy.

    Additionally, you will have to purchase protective vests, modules for connecting to the server, first aid kits for players, various sensors, and spare bandages. It wouldn't hurt to have a couple more spare barrels. Don't forget to buy targets - players need to aim before the fun begins.

    You must also understand that a laser tag business is impossible without hiring staff. At first, you can perform the role of director yourself; there is no need to hire an accountant - since your business is small, a specialist who comes once a quarter will be enough.

    Who will you need to hire to make your project profitable and profitable?

    • Equipment - a person who monitors the performance and serviceability of equipment and has experience in this field.
    • An instructor, he can also perform the work of a judge and cashier. Must competently and clearly explain how to use a weapon, how to shoot, what the rules of the game are and the scenario.
    • Additional staff, such as a cleaner and a driver, if your club is located on the outskirts and you decide to transport players to and from the venue.

    The expenses of a laser tag club as a business also include formal expenses - registration of a legal entity in the Russian Federation, ordering a seal, opening a current account. To open a small club, an ordinary LLC company is enough - in Russia this is one of the most convenient forms for doing business.

    How and what equipment to choose for a laser tag club

    Unlike paintball and airsoft, laser tag does not require the purchase of protective equipment, since the weapon shoots infrared rays. You won’t need to buy consumables, such as paint balls. It is necessary to purchase a powerful computer that serves as a game server. Special software is installed on it, which records the playing time, as well as the elimination of participants. Weapon replicas may differ in technical characteristics and material quality. Each unit can cost from 1,500 to 40,000 rubles. Special accessories included in the kit record the fact of hitting the participant and turn off his weapon.

    What is laser tag

    Laser tag battles are popular military-tactical entertainment that allow the player to completely immerse themselves in the world of shootouts and dizzying battles of the future. The main difference from computer shooters in this case is the physical presence of the player on the battlefield. He is given a special suit and in-game weapons, after which he can feel like a real space force fighter.

    Due to the high popularity of laser tag, many entrepreneurs are thinking about the advisability of starting such a business. And with the right approach, such investments will not only pay off, but will also bring significant profits. Experts predict that within the next 5 years laser tag will become the most popular entertainment of its kind, leaving behind such areas as paintball and airsoft.

    Organization technology

    Choosing an enclosed space as a battle site is the most expensive, but promising option, since it allows you not to depend on weather conditions. The club must provide at least a couple of areas where fights will take place, which must be no less than 150 by 80 meters in size. You also need to think about the heating system, changing rooms and shower rooms (women's and men's). A room for snacking would be useful - it could serve as a buffet. Organizers need to think through at least several game scenarios to whet the interest of regular visitors. Examples could be capturing the other team's flag, destroying all opponents, or defending a fortress.
