Correspondent and current account - what is it and what is the difference


People apply for opening a bank account for immediate access to performing actions with free funds: depositing and withdrawing cash without limits, transactions according to necessary needs within the accumulated volume.

This method of manipulating money among people is usually called a “demand account.” A popular action for Russian citizens is to open a current account with Sberbank.

On paper forms or in electronic format, a person regularly encounters details when:

  • opening an account;
  • making utility payments;
  • payment for educational and medical services;
  • payment of property taxes;
  • execution of penalties.

When filling out numerous forms, the consumer uses the example of a current account.

Introduction of the structure

When preparing receipts and forms, people do not count how many digits are in the current account. They simply copy the information from the sample laid out in the service room. There is a possibility of a technical error. A missing or excessively entered number turns the details into invalid information, and the form into a damaged piece of paper. Therefore, you should initially know that the subject being studied consists of twenty digits.

To study an example of a current account, let’s take information from the website of any commercial enterprise that:

  • registered on the territory of the Russian Federation;
  • is a client of the Russian KFU;
  • operates in payment currency – rubles.

The cumbersome sequence 407 02 810 3 7209 00 19522 provides the user with a set of interesting information about the payee. You just need to study the structure of the structure. A breakdown by group is shown here for ease of understanding. In fact, all characters are written in forms without spaces.

What is settlement account in details

The most important combination of numbers for an entrepreneur is his current account number. This is the place where the money of a company or individual entrepreneur flows under completed contracts, from where cash is withdrawn for various needs, funds are transferred for the purchase of raw materials, materials, wages, etc. This is the personal storage of rubles or foreign currency of a business entity.

Information about the account is always indicated in contracts and when filling out payment orders. This unique code, which also consists of 20 digits, is entered in field 9 (see picture).

Here, “stars” are placed between the groups for ease of study. In contracts, forms, receipts and payments, the sequence is written without intermediate characters. Let's clarify:

NNN - cells 1, 2, 3; balance account number I;

MM – symbols 4, 5; balance account number II;

VVV – signs 6, 7, 8; currency code;

K – ordinal position 9; verification key;

FFFF – numbers 10, 11, 12, 13; department or branch of KFU;

SS – signs in cells 14, 15; type of account;

XXXXX – characters from 16 to 20; front, internal banking landmark.

It does not matter in which bank the current account was opened by the recipient or the payer: there are always twenty numbers.

The concept of the owner

The first three characters of NNN contain information about the owner. The combinations are located in the range 102 - 705, where most of the codes are used within the bank or for interbank transactions:

  • Accounting for own capital, funds, profits and losses of a credit institution is carried out in accounts starting with combinations 102 - 109;
  • operations with precious metals and stones of the bank and its clients use triads 203 and 204;
  • registers 301–329 have been created for interbank transactions; Correspondent accounts, designated in documents by the abbreviation “c/s”, begin with these combinations;
  • transactions with securities are reflected in registers 501-526.

What is a correspondent account

A correspondent account is an account that is opened by banking organizations to conduct financial transactions between them. Opening such an account is available only to banks. The money lying in the correspondent account is protected by the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.

With the help of a correspondent account, banks can fulfill customer requests on time.

There are several types of correspondent accounts:

  1. Nostro – one financial institution opens an account with another bank;
  2. Loro – an account opened by a bank for another;
  3. Vostro – issued by a financial institution for foreign banks.

The correspondent account number must be entered in the payment order
