What are the codes for the child tax credit in 2020?

New deduction codes

In the 2-NDFL certificates submitted in 2020, section 3 reflects the codes and amounts of income, as well as the following personal income tax deductions:

  • payments that are not subject to personal income tax within the limit (daily allowance, financial benefits, etc.);
  • professional deductions;
  • amounts that reduce the tax base in accordance with Articles 213.1, 214, 214.1 of the Tax Code of the Russian Federation.

In section 3 of the 2-NDFL certificate, tax deductions are shown opposite the corresponding income. If several deductions are allowed to be applied to one type of income, the first deduction is reflected opposite the income in the columns “Deduction Code” and “Deduction Amount”, the second – in the line below, etc. In this case, the fields “Month”, “Income Code” and “Amount” income" opposite the second and subsequent deductions are not filled in. Section 4 shows standard, social, investment and property deductions for the purchase (construction) of housing.

Required documents

If an employee wants to use the child deduction with code 128, then he must provide all documents. First of all, you need to bring a statement written in free form. However, enterprises often have ready-made forms or samples for filling out. In general, you indicate your data here, as well as the data of all three children. Despite the fact that older children may already be over twenty-four years old, documents for them are also provided. This makes it possible to prove that the child for whom deduction code 128 is applied is the third, since the amount of deduction for him is greater than for the first or second.

The main documents that confirm a parent’s right to a deduction are the children’s birth certificates. In this case, the following are provided:

  • Birth certificate of the first child;
  • Birth certificate of the second child;
  • Birth certificate for the third child.

If any of the children are studying full-time and have not yet reached the age of 24, then they should regularly bring a certificate confirming this. It is recommended to provide it twice a year, namely at the beginning of the calendar and academic year.

Deduction tables 2020: codes and sizes

Each personal income tax deduction is determined in the amount established by the Tax Code of the Russian Federation. In this case, each deduction has its own code. The following table shows the codes and amounts of deductions for 2-NDFL certificates for 2020. The table was formed on the basis of Appendix 1 to the order of the Federal Tax Service of Russia dated September 10, 2020 No. ММВ-7-11/387 (as amended by the order of the Federal Tax Service of Russia dated November 22, 2020 No. ММВ-7-11/63).

Coding of the child tax deduction

The tax deduction is activated until the end of the month in which the salary of the parent, guardian or trustee, from the beginning of the year, exceeded a certain amount, namely 350,000 rubles, and then the deduction is suspended. Codes for deductions approved by law are used in generating information on the income of resident citizens of the Russian Federation and currently look like this:

For parents: (click to expand)

  • 126 – for the first child in the family and amounts to 1,400 rubles;
  • 127 – also 1,400 rubles, but for the second child;
  • 128 – will provide the third child in the family with an amount of 3,000 rubles;
  • 129 – this code is assigned to disabled children. It is determined in the amount of 12,000 rubles.

For guardians, trustees, and adoptive parents:

  • 130 – for the first child in the amount of 1,400 rubles;
  • 131 – for the second child in the amount of 1,400 rubles;
  • 132 – for the third child in the amount of 3,000 rubles;
  • 133 – for a disabled child 6,000 rubles.

Important! The charges described above are not an amount that must then be returned, that is, tax. It will not take into account the official monthly tax - 13% of your salary.

Not all tax deduction codes are listed here, but this is the basis, the foundation, which is considered an integral help in providing the child with essential goods.

Example

In the unified form of income reporting for an individual, the column reflecting the deduction code is in both the 3rd and 4th sections. Correctly indicate the amount in the part intended to fill out the provided compensation for various reasons:

We recommend additional reading: Is compensation for unused vacation subject to personal income tax or not?

For example, this is what the reimbursement for the first and second child will look like in reporting 2nd personal income tax, indicating codes 126 and 127:

As a result, the citizen’s total income of 454,450 rubles is reduced by 14,000 rubles, and the tax is calculated from the balance. According to the sample, personal income tax compensation was not provided for the entire 12 months, but only until the amount of income did not exceed 350 thousand rubles.

It should be noted that compensation is reflected in the reporting on an accrual basis, no matter for what period the document was drawn up (quarter, 6 months or year).

How to apply for a deduction

Any citizen who has a child can receive a tax deduction from the income on which personal income tax must be paid.

This benefit is provided from the month of birth of the child, and terminates immediately when he turns 18 years old, upon completion of his studies at a university, if he remains supported by his parents until this time, or upon marriage.

If an officially employed employee has a child, to provide the deduction he must prepare the necessary documents: a photocopy of the birth certificate and an application. For a child over 18, proof of full-time education will be required.

A single mother or father is required to confirm their status. For example, bring the death certificate of the other parent, a certificate from a single mother, a copy of the passport, which shows that the parent is not married. In this case, a double deduction will be applied to them.

The other parent is also entitled to double the amount if the mother or father writes a statement of refusal in his favor.

If a citizen has changed his place of work and wants to continue to receive a deduction, he should, in addition to the above documents, bring a 2-NDFL certificate. It allows the accountant to track whether the employee’s income has reached the threshold of 350,000, and whether the deduction was accrued in the current month.

In the event that a citizen for some reason did not use the benefits (did not know or did not provide documents), he has the opportunity to return the funds overpaid to the tax authorities, but only for the last three years.

Child deductions are provided on income subject to thirteen percent tax. But in order to take advantage of the benefit, the employee must apply for it independently, documenting his rights.
